Limescale in Kettle

It can be rather unpleasant when making a brew, whether it be tea, coffee or hot chocolate, and a calcified lump is deposited into the mug.

Magnesium and calcium minerals found in the water coming out of the kitchen tap are what cause limescale to build up in kitchen appliances, such as the kettle.

With time, if not removed from the kettle, limescale can become corrosive and damage the inside of the kettle.

This means limescale can shorten the lifespan of the kettle, costing you more money over time because you will need to buy a new appliance.

While there are limescale removers available to purchase in stores, there is one common household ingredient that can lift the limescale in as little as "30 seconds".

Vinegar

According to a YouTube content creator – dubbed "Thoughts for Happy Minds" – a simple glass of vinegar can remove limescale.

"I neglected my kettle on purpose, for one month, to show you my method of removing the nasty limescale," the creator shared on YouTube.

"Cleaning your kettle is actually ridiculously easy," she assured. "Fill a glass with any kind of vinegar."

People wanting to remove limescale from their kettle are then instructed to "pour all of it in the kettle".

The creator elaborated: "You don't need a specific quantity; you just need to cover the bottom."

Once the limescale is covered by vinegar, the next step is to turn on the kettle and "leave it to do its magic for about 30 seconds".

When you see the limescale detaching from the bottom of the kettle, you can turn off the kettle and you will see that "the bottom is already clear".

Showing off her now clean kettle, the next area that needs treatment is the sides of the kettle.

"Fill your kettle with tap water to the max level, leaving the hot vinegar inside," she instructed. "Turn it on; this time for a full cycle."

In the video, viewers can see that the content creator boils the kettle with the lid off.

And, as promised, once the water is boiled, the whole inside of the kettle looks lovely and clean.

Promising the kettle "should be like new", she added: "If it's not for some reason, repeat the procedure."
