Microwaves are a blessing for whipping up quick meals, but cleaning them can be a real chore.

Scraping off burnt leftovers from the corners is hardly appetising, and microwaving your food in a grease and crumb-filled box isn't just detrimental to your microwave's efficiency, it could also pose a health risk if harmful bacteria contaminates your food.

Fortunately, there's an easy method to remove even the most stubborn stains and grime in just five minutes. You don't need pricey, chemical-heavy products or any strenuous scrubbing.

Cleaning gurus at Homeworks Design have shared a brilliant trick for cleaning your microwave on a recent TikTok video. The organising experts suggest pouring around 500ml of white vinegar (two cups) into a microwave-safe bowl and placing it uncovered in the appliance.

Next, microwave this natural cleaner for five minutes, then let it sit for another five. After that, carefully take out the bowl and wipe clean with a damp cloth - and voila, your microwave will look as good as new.

If you don't have any white vinegar in your kitchen, you can easily find a bottle in most supermarkets. Tesco's white vinegar is currently price-matched with Aldi, so a 568ml bottle will only cost you 35p.

Alternatively, if you prefer shopping online, you can grab a 5l bottle on Amazon for £6.99.

If you're not a fan of the smell, you can also try this hack using water and just a tablespoon of white vinegar. Savvy mum Joan Walsh swears by this trick and says she uses it "all the time".

"Get a microwave safe jug or bowl of water and fill it halfway up with water, then add a tablespoon of white vinegar," the Westport parent added. "Microwave for about five minutes. The water will steam up and soften any burnt on or dried up food, so it can easily be wiped away."
