Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their go-to method for removing unpleasant oil stains from driveways and blocked paving.

Facebook user Leanne Smith asked the social media group, 'Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips': "Hi all, our car had an oil leak a month or so ago and we are finding it impossible to get this stain out of the drive.

"So far tried no-nonsense degreaser, bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid and the jet washer which doesn’t seem to touch it either! Any other suggestions please?"

The post was inundated with suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans but the most recommended solution was to use Fairy Liquid.

Eibhlin NicConmhara said: "Fairy original undiluted poured directly onto the stain and leave for a couple of days, then wash off. Works for me every time."

Carol Jackson-Smith commented: "Try washing up Fairy Liquid, diluted in a little hot water pour on give a good scrub. It works on mine."

Sadie Mac replied: "Our block paving company suggested Fairy Liquid and a very firm scrubbing brush. Then rinse off with boiling water from the kettle. Worth a try."

Annette Freer suggested: "Fairy Liquid small drop of water brush it in well, leave for a day then brush and hose off."

Apply the neat Fairy Liquid to the stain and brush it in with a hard-bristled brush before rinsing it off with boiling water.

The washing-up liquid should dissolve the oils and the boiling water should melt away any fats.

Alternatively, you could try using some of the other methods suggested by Mrs Hinch fans which include cola, washing powder and brick acid.

Jacqui Liggins commented: "Bio washing powder and some warm water, brush it in.

"Leave to dry and then rinse with a pressure washer. Worked a treat on mine (I have the same brick driveway as yours)."

Dianne Crumley replied: "Coca Cola. Two litre bottle. Pour on, quick brush and leave to dry. Might need to do it a couple of times."

Sharon Dymond-Muller suggested: "Brick acid was the only thing that worked on mine."
