Asos has made a major change to its returns policy with customers now forced to pay a new fee.

Shoppers have been warned to check their emails for information about a significant change to the retailer's returns process after informing some shoppers that they will now be required to pay.

The platform is often the go-to destination for many when in need of a new outfit or two, whether for a holiday, party or everyday wear.

However, due to the nature of online shopping, items may not always meet expectations, necessitating returns. It seems the retailer is now taking action against frequent returners by introducing a new fee.

In an email sent to certain customers identified as regular returners, Asos informed them of the upcoming change set to take effect next month.

The update will require customers to pay for returns, which are currently free in all cases, unless they retain a certain amount from their order, reports the Mirror.

This £15 minimum only applies to Asos Premium customers - those who pay £10 annually for free next-day delivery on orders over £15. For non-Asos Premium subscribers, a minimum of £40 from your order must be kept to qualify for a free return.

The online fashion behemoth stated: "We want to give you a heads up about some updates we're making to our Fair Use Policy that will affect your future orders with Asos.

"As part of a small group of customers with a frequently high returns rate, you'll now only get Free Returns when you keep £15 or more from your order. If you keep less than £15 from your order, we'll deduct £3.95 from your refund."

Furthermore, ASOS clarified, "This change will only apply to orders placed from 8 October 2024, and you'll be reminded on-site."

Shoppers are expected to see a reminder about the potential charge while making their purchases as these policy changes come into effect; if this notification isn't seen, customers should still be able to do their returns for free.

Additionally, the retailer expanded on how the system would work for those using payment instalments, stating: "If you've placed an order with Klarna or Clearpay, you'll be paying for your order in regular instalments.

"If you return an item within 28 days of it being delivered to you, or available for collection, we'll arrange a refund to you of the relevant amount, with the return charge deducted (if applicable)."

For those looking to dive deeper into the fine print, ASOS directs them to the complete update available within their Fair Use Policy.
