THE ELF ON THE SHELF tradition has swept across the world, with the mischievous little elf dominating social media this festive season. If you’re stuck for ideas of how your elf can say goodbye come December 24, here are some tips.

Some wacky ideas have involved the elf wrapping various bits of furniture, writing messages with toothpaste and stealing chocolate from an advent calendar.
There are even celebrity fans of the elf, including Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Kate Garraway, Rochelle Humes and Katie Piper, to name just a few.
Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter is also a massive fan of The Elf on the Shelf, chronicling the activities of his Scout Elves, Ollie and Olivia, throughout December.

Here are eight brilliant ideas for how your elf can say goodbye come Christmas Eve -
Position them with cookies and milk for Santa so that Mr Claus can pick him up when he gets to your home.
Have him write “Bye” with marshmallows
A tape covered mint tin with a pipe cleaner handle could be a brilliant way to make a suitcase
Dust icing sugar or flour over the elf to create an elf outline, then hide him away for next year!
Write a letter saying goodbye and explaining he will be back next year
Leave glitter or flour elf footprints leading out of the front door or even towards the chimney
Have your elf leave a present for the kids under the Christmas tree addressed from him
Ask your kids to write the elf a goodbye letter
