One in four Brits now consider Halloween their favourite 'holiday' and plan to spend big

A survey of 2,000 adults found they are preparing to splash out nearly £100 this October, after typically spending an average of just £21 in previous years.

One in four Brits claim Halloween is their favourite ‘holiday’ – and are set to spend big on it this year.

A month ahead of the big night, a poll of 2,000 adults revealed they are gearing up to shell out almost £100 this October, after spending an average of just £21 in previous years.


Almost a quarter will formulate their plans for Halloween at least a month in advance - with half believing products should be in the shops in good time.

A third intend to hand out treats, 25% will carve pumpkins and 20% will deck out their homes with decorations. While 20% will don full costume for the big night.

It also emerged 23% will get competitive when it comes to their decoration – with the living room, front porch and hallway in for the spooky treatment.

Vicky Woods from Disney Store, which commissioned the research to launch its Halloween collection, said: “Halloween has really gained momentum in the UK in recent years, which the research and our own customer interest shows us.

“As a result, more people than ever are transforming their homes inside and out for the occasion – from dressing up to throwing themed parties.

“We are seeing searches for Halloween themed products starting earlier each year, beginning around mid-July and peaking the first week of October."

When it comes to costume choice, 16% prefer a non-frightening option – while a third (31%) are out to scare.

But social media has had an influence on decorations and costumes over the years according to 31% - with 24% also looking to outdo others with their choice of costume.

However, 26% reckon Halloween can be as fun for adults as it is children – with 18% enjoying trick or treaters knocking at the door. Of the 36% polled, via OnePoll, who are responsible for children on the night, 51% get excited and 46% of kids love to dress up.

Vicky Woods, from the Disney Store, added: “It’s fascinating to see how many people now rate Halloween as their favourite ‘holiday.’

“Children, especially, love to embrace the fun, and it’s a perfect chance for families to come together and get creative. But it’s always worth planning ahead – the best costumes and decorations tend to fly off the shelves as we approach the big night.

“We’ve made Halloween extra special this year with a fantastic selection of themed products for everyone. With these magical items, families can create a truly unforgettable Halloween experience.”
