Adjustable sprinkler gives 'fantastic' coverage for thirsty lawns

If you're looking to take more of a hands-off approach to your lawn, it's time to invest in a proper sprinkler. Gardeners love the "fantastic" coverage it gives

We're coming into the season of scorched lawns - in recent years, it feels like British summer time has gone from a hopeful period of moderate heat to a burning hot wasteland of never-ending heatwaves. OK, it might not be quite that bad, but the point is that if you're a keen or even amateur gardener, you're going to want to keep your lawns and plants well-watered over the next few months (hosepipe bans notwithstanding).

A sprinkler is a key tool in your arsenal, then, and they've come on in leaps and bounds over recent years, as proved by the excellent Gardena AquaZoom. This compact sprinkler is priced at £29.22 on Amazon, making it pretty premium as sprinklers go, something that it makes up for with features and quality.

This model has a maximum range of 216m², but there are plenty of other options on Amazon. If you had a smaller area, you could spend £28.90 on the maximum range of 150m², or if you wanted to go even bigger this range increases all the way to 280m² - that one costs £36.32.

For comparison, if you head to B&Q you could pick up a more traditional GoodHome Watering Sprinkler (which will be a little harder to direct) for £20. The AquaZoom is designed specifically in the way it lets you aim and direct its jets as you like.

This means that you can tilt and rotate its head super easily, and set up how much it'll oscillate to ensure that it's not just wasting water by soaking part of your flowerbed you didn't even need it to. It's also small, which is key for something that will be stored in a shed or side passage for most of its life.

You can get a measure of its quality from the massive list of over 17,000 reviews on Amazon, too, with an average of 4.4 stars proving how reliable it should be. One person summed things up really succinctly, writing: "Light and very easy to use and coverage is fantastic highly recommended."

Another user said: "This is a quality bit of German engineering. So easy to use. Plugged straight into my hose attachment. It’s got so many easy-to-choose options to suit your requirements perfectly.

"Clear instructions are on the box. It even has a filter to keep muck out of the system." Finally, a small note from another user made a useful clarification that the sprinkler "works well even under low pressure".

However, some people said the instructions weren't so simple. One person said: "Very poor instructions, I'm struggling to know how to adjust it for maximum watering coverage!"

Going by the weight of opinion it looks like this is a good option for keeping your garden well watered, so the Gardena AquaZoom might well be your saviour if we get another hot summer.
