Your lawn mowing routine is crucial for maintaining a healthy, vibrant grass.

Whether you're an experienced green thumb or just starting out, grasping the essentials can turn your patch of green into a verdant sanctuary. It might look straightforward, but a surprising number of enthusiasts have been doing it all wrong.

A gardening expert, known online as Black Lotus Gardening, caused quite a stir with his revelation, sharing a video on social media that quickly went viral. In the TikTok footage, which racked up over 35,000 views, the Melbourne man appeared to battle with cutting back the tall grass.

However, he shared a game-changing "method will change your life".

His advice was simple, as he added: "I used to just smash the lawn mower into the tall grass and pray to the lawn gods. Then after gaining enough exp, I decided that it worked out to be faster mowing the lawn twice."

This method will change your life. I used to just smash the lawn mower into the tall grass and pray to the lawn gods. Then after gaining enough exp, I decided that it worked out to be faster mowing the lawn twice. Once on a high setting and then again on the desired setting. ️Its a bonus if you line trim the edges inbetween since its easier to see and you can catch it on the second run through. The clip showed him adjusting the mower to a higher setting using a switch on the side. He first tackled the grass at this higher level to trim down the height, then adjusted the mower back to the preferred setting for a final cut.

He advised: "Once on a high setting and then again on the desired setting. It's a bonus if you line trim the edges in between since it is easier to see and you can catch it on the second run-through."

TikTok viewers were amazed by the tip, with many admitting they had no idea their lawnmowers had adjustable settings. One impressed user commented: "Oh, you're a genius I would have never figured that out."

Another person chimed in: "Nah, just lift the front of the mower when it's about to shut off," while a third remarked: "Wait... mowers can be adjusted?"

Research has shown that Brits spend a staggering 15-hours mowing their lawn every year, equivalent to one hour every fortnight. But their strenuous efforts could be going to waste, says gardening guru Bo Petterson.

Bo shared his top four tips for a perfect lawn on TikTok, where he's known as @dadadvicefrombo. He started his video by saying how important it is to take care of your lawn.

He said: "In the spring, you need to mow a couple of times a week and you need to cut it short. This teaches your grass to grow outwards instead of upwards, making your lawn thicker.

"In the summer, you don't have to mow as often, but you should leave the grass longer. This shades the roots from the hot sun."
