Speaking to Express.co.uk, head gardener at Sculpture by the Lakes – a botanic British garden oasis in Dorchester – Chi Chi Dunford revealed how to encourage more blooms from a peace lily.

"Peace lilies commonly flower in springtime," said Chi Chi Dunford, but as the UK heads towards summer on June 20, they may find their peace lilies are turning yellow.

"You can trim off the spathes when they start drying out or turning yellow," advised Dunford. She said doing so is one of the steps to take "to encourage more blooms to grow" again.

As to where to cut the yellowing flower, Dunford elaborated: "Cut it right down to the level of compost where it emerged."

As the seasons begin to change, Dunford said: "It’s best to repot them into a slightly larger pot with fresh compost to give them the best chance for reflowering.

"Remove the spent flowers to encourage new growth and ensure they get plenty of sunlight."

By following these steps, any by placing the peace lily plant in a "warm, humid environment", it's highly likely the houseplant will rebloom in autumn.

Three top tips to make peace lily houseplant rebloom:

  1. Cut yellow flowers
  2. Repot peace lily
  3. Place in the right environment

The expert in horticulture said: "Recreate their natural habitat of warm, humid environments and pot them in moist soil."

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) said the peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) is "easy to grow".

For the best growing conditions, a peace lily requires:

  • Consistent warmth and moderate humidity
  • Rainwater, when possible
  • Feeding each fortnight from spring to autumn
  • Wipe leaves with damp cloth
  • Misting leaves

Help! My peace lily is drooping

A droopy peace lily is thirsty; thankfully, the plant will perk up after being watered.

To prevent waterlogged soil, it's best to water the peace lily over a kitchen sink, for example, where excess water can be drained from its pot that should have holes in it.
