With December 25 only days away you might be starting to panic about your Christmas shopping, or lack of it, but it's not too late to create a handmade gift from the comfort of your own home.
If you don't fancy pushing your way through crazed shoppers on Christmas Eve why not make an easy, cheap present with a personal touch. Your relatives will appreciate the effort you've gone to and your last minute gifts won't look so last minute.
This homemade brownie mix in a jar is the perfect present for a keen cook or an ammeter baker and it takes less than 10 minutes to make. The neatly assembled layers make it look a lot more complicated than it is and means it will look great in anyone's kitchen.
You can personalise the jar further by adding a simple red or gold ribbon and a Christmas tag with the method and a festive message.

RECIPE: LAYERED BROWNIE MIX JAR
Servings
Serves 1 - 16 Brownies
Ingredients
1litre Jar:
1/2 tsp baking powder
95 g plain flour
35 g cocoa
75 g plain flour
135 g brown sugar
150 g sugar
100 g chocolate chips
100g white chocolate chips
Plus:
150g melted butter
3 beaten eggs
Optional:
You can also add 50 g walnuts or pecans as required
Method
1. Use a plastic funnel or make one by rolling up some grease-proof paper and cutting the point off
2. Place the funnel inside the jar and layer the ingredients, in the order shown above, from top to bottom, starting with the baking powder and flour. Press each layer down and even it out using a teaspoon before adding the next.
3. Tie a festive red or gold bow around the top of the jar and attach a tag reading: Combine the contents of the jar with 150g melted butter and 3 beaten eggs. Mix well, and pour into a lined 9 x 9 inch tin. Bake at Gas 4 / 180 C (160 fan) / 350 F for 25-35 minutes.
