Here's Hollie Woods's recipe for making this scrumptious Garlic Bread Lasagne.

Garlic Bread Lasagne

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic bread baguette

For the bolognese

  • 500g 5% beef mince
  • 150g diced smoked bacon
  • one onion (finely diced)
  • two medium carrots (finely diced)
  • two peppers (sliced or diced)
  • three cloves garlic (finely grated)
  • one tbsp tomato purée
  • one tbsp Italian mixed herbs
  • one beef stock cube
  • 500g passata

For the bechamel

  • two tbsp butter
  • two tbsp plain flour
  • 300ml milk - I used semi-skimmed
  • one tsp mustard (optional)
  • 120g cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Begin by sauteing the onions, carrots and peppers in a pan until they soften, then introduce the garlic.

Follow this with your bacon and allow it to cook for a few minutes, before adding the beef mince and cooking until brown.

Next, incorporate the tomato puree, stock cube, herbs and passata into the pan and let it simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes - the longer, the better.

While this is happening, put the garlic bread in the oven to cook (the packaging should provide the necessary cooking time).

As the bread cooks, prepare the cheese sauce.

Start the sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan, then mix in the flour.

Allow this to cook for a few minutes before gradually adding the milk, stirring constantly until you achieve a thick sauce.

At this point, stir in the mustard and cheddar, seasoning to taste.

In a deep-set pan or dish, pour in the bolognese, layer the slices of garlic bread on top of the meat, and finish with a topping of cheese sauce and mozzarella.

Finally, place the dish in the oven or under the grill until the top turns golden and starts to bubble. Serve hot and enjoy.
