Supermarket giants Aldi and Spar are urging shoppers not to purchase popular food items as there may be potential "health risks".

An urgent recall has been issued for 50 food items sold across a range of retailers due to potential peanut contamination. The Food Standards Agency has raised the alarm, warning those with peanut allergies to steer clear of the recalled products.

The list includes a garlic and herb dip from Aldi, Domino's dip pots, sandwich fillers and potato salad from Booker, as well as a variety of sandwiches, wraps, and pasta salads available at Spar.

Aldi has released a warning notice stating: "Our supplier is recalling Carlos Takeaway Garlic and Herb Dip 100g because the product may contain an undeclared allergen (peanuts). Anyone who bought this product may return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."

The FSA issued a statement: "FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling several products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts. This means these products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts."

They further explained: "Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert."

A warning has also been issued by Domino's regarding its garlic and herb, and honey and mustard dip pots due to a supplier quality issue. The company stated: "Due to a supplier quality issue, we are recalling the above products as we have been advised they may contain traces of peanut which could pose a risk to those customers who have a peanut allergy.

"This affects the above products which were provided up to Sunday, September 15, 2024. Customers who have these dip pots at home should dispose of them. We apologise for the concern and inconvenience this issue may cause."

Booker also announced a recall, stating: "Booker is recalling the above Jack's Sandwich Fillers and Potato Salad bought between the dates identified below because there is a risk of a peanut allergen contamination, which presents a food safety risk to anyone who may suffer from a peanut allergy."

Elsewhere, an update has been released after a popular dinner-time food was recalled due to an unlisted ingredient. Earlier this week, the Food Standards Agency announced that Farmfoods was recalling its Qualiko Frozen Chicken Battered Premium Nuggets as they contain milk, which is not declared on the label.

The FSA has now issued a clarification, specifying the exact batch of products affected. Initially, all products were included, but it has now been narrowed down to those with a best-before date up to and including December 2025.

The FSA stated: "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. This alert has been updated to provide further details on the best-before dates affected by this recall."
