‘As much as house deposit’ – Buyers told to avoid used cars that cost thousands to fix
An automotive influencer has discussed a number of popular used models that can leave motorists thousands of pounds lighter.
A motoring expert has shared his thoughts on the most unreliable used cars, urging buyers to choose their next set of wheels wisely.
Van Monkey is a new and used commercial vehicle retailer which regularly posts short videos to their TikTok page, helping to inform viewers on buying and maintaining a variety of vehicles.
In one video, an employee of Van Monkey warned viewers against buying a number of recently produced cars used to avoid paying thousands in repair bills, including the family-friendly Porsche Panamera sportscar.
He advised: “In at number four it’s the absolutely ‘gopping’ [ugly] Porsche Panamera.
Highest repair cost is £10,825 and a score of 23.4 out of 100.”

The TikToker also highlighted that the Range Rover Sport is another bad investment for any motorist looking to buy a cheap used car.
The smaller variant of the full-sized Range Rover, the Sport keeps the luxury SUV’s good looks and, in its most potent form, accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds.
However, whilst buyers can easily find examples for sale for less than £5,000, he noted that some repairs could set drivers back more than £23,000, which the video creator noted is the same as some house deposits.

Later in the video, the Van Monkey employee also suggested that drivers avoid a popular BMW, particularly in its high-performance variant.
He continued: “Just missing out on the top, well bottom, spot is the BMW M3.
“The highest repair cost is £12,115 and [it has] a score of 21.4.”
However, according to the company’s data, the used car with the worst reliability is the UK-built Range Rover, which can cost eye-watering figures to replace.
He added: “And taking the bottom spot is the footballer’s necessity, as soon as you get a little bit of money, you have to buy one, it’s the law. It is the Range Rover.
“The highest repair cost is £23,890 and a score of 20.2. Are you surprised? Because I’m not really.”
