Motorists could make £2,000 from cars parked in their garages and on driveways
Motorists who have access to a garage could be making thousands of pounds every year, simply by cleaning it out and offering drivers a parking space.
A new survey found that 32 percent of people treat their garage as an extra place to use as storage if they don’t need to park their car there. This comes as experts are urging people to get rid of their clutter in the garage and offering it to people who need a parking space.
With April seeing a number of price rises, including Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) and car insurance, drivers could potentially profit from their underused garages.
In addition to the motoring costs, council tax, energy prices and water bills are also increasing this month.
Homeowners who continually rent out their driveways through the online service YourParkingSpace.co.uk make an average of £2,019 every year.
Drivers can rent out their driveways or garages for drivers to make use of if the owner doesn’t need access to it.

Brannan Coady, CEO of YourParkingSpace.co.uk, informed drivers of the ways in which they can make money from their unused property.
He said: “Over the years, the traditional garage has slowly turned into a room where you can store items that you rarely use, and they end up collecting dust on shelves or in boxes.
“However, if you are able to declutter that space and turn it back into a garage fit for a car, you could find it starts collecting money instead.”
With millions potentially using their garages as storage, they could be making money through the service.

People looking to rent out parking space may also be willing to pay more to ensure they can park in a garage, rather than on a driveway.
A garage offers drivers the security and assurance they need that their car will be far more protected from thieves and the weather.
Over 700,000 parking spaces are already available on the parking portal, with over five million users of the service.
This comes as a number of popular tourist hotspots, like Dartmoor National Park, have increased the price of their parking charges.

Many councils have also raised the price of parking in their areas, with many drivers put off by the expensive charges and opting to use alternative methods of transport.
Mr Coady continued, highlighting that the rental market for parking spaces has rocketed over the past couple of years.
Especially with something like a garage, homeowners are being convinced to do a spring clean and make the most of the space, either by parking in it themselves or renting it out.
He added: “Just consider the extra income generated through renting out your drive to others – then hiring the equipment back when you need to use it.
“It is not just in garages where a spring clean could prove profitable. People could consider the layout of their driveways and whether moving a few plant pots or bins could help fit an extra car on it.
“Once you have tidied up your garage or driveway, we recommend using our site to check local prices to help gauge your competitive rate.”
This could be a big help to people going on holiday and want to avoid the often-extortionate airport parking charges.
Many available parking spaces are also seen near major events, like football stadiums, concert venues and tourist attractions.
