Infiniti tease new performance electric concept car ahead of Pebble Beach 2018 launch
INFINITI has teased an all-new electric concept car ahead of its unveiling at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later this month.
Infiniti has revealed a glimpse of a new electric concept car it is set to reveal later this month.
The car will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California on 23rd August.
Ahead of the unveiling at the event the manufacturer has offered a small glimpse into what the car will look like.
It shows a bird's-eye view of the car which is seemingly one sort of convertible with a bucket style sports seat and rectangular steering wheel.
The way the body seems to contour around the headrest of the driver seat is somewhat reminiscent of Formula One car and alludes to its performance DNA.
From 2021 the carmaker will focus on performance electrification and this new concept car is the first project to make this plan come to fruition.
Infiniti says the car will also provide a window into the brand’s desire to deliver driving enjoyment and performance from electrified powertrains.
New executive design director, Karim Habib and his team have said the concept will provide design cues for future models.
Global Design "Empower the drive" with new Infiniti car
Last year at the 2017 Pebble Beach show the manufacturer revealed the Prototype 9 which is a retro electric roadster.
It was based on the open-wheel Grand Prix cars of the 1940s and combines future technology with the elegant styling from the past.
The vehicle, launching later this month, could resemble the Q Inspiration which Infiniti unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, which was a design study for its future electric car.
Despite this it was powered by a VC-Turbo powertrain which offered compression ratios between 8:1 and 14:1 and is said to offer efficiency that rivals a hybrid or a diesel car.
The concept also debuted the car’s driver assistance and semi-autonomous driving features.
It features a version of parent company Nissan’s Pro-Pilot technology and what Infiniti describes as a ‘human-centric’ interior.
In the front of the car, the dashboard has been replaced by a number of screens giving it a cleaner and more refined look.
A square multifunctional steering wheel and mini screen mounted to the centre console will control the three new dashboard screens.
The centre console stretches from the front to the rear, where two additional screens for the rear passengers are mounted to.
