Despite sales of used hybrid and electric vehicles falling, many motorists were interested in certain clean models during the second quarter of 2024.

The AA has shared the most searched-for electric vehicles and hybrid models on the used market during the second quarter of 2024.

According to the organisation, the average cost of a low-emission vehicle between April and June 2024 fell by 20 percent, indicating a slight decline in demand.

Nevertheless, The AA's latest Used Car Index found that the most searched-for used hybrid car was the Toyota Yaris, a popular Japanese model that has been a mainstay in the range since 1999.

Whilst the compact city car originally featured a traditional petrol powertrain, the latest fourth-generation variant can be bought as a hybrid model that produces 118bhp.

Despite not being the largest or most practical model available, the little Yaris is great fun to drive, has a good level of standard equipment and is capable of getting 80mpg if driven carefully.

Also from the Toyota range, The AA Used Car Index found that plenty of buyers were interested in a second-hand Prius, a larger hybrid liftback model.

With an average used price of just over £12,000, the Toyota Prius is one of the cheapest low-emission vehicles to feature on the company's list, with older second-generation examples available for less than £3,000.

Across the five generations built since 1997, the Toyota Prius is known for being an incredibly reliable and well-built model that has a comfortable ride.

However, not all popular hybrid and electric cars available on the used car market were made by Toyota, with The AA finding that the Honda Jazz was also a common choice in the second quarter of 2024.

A five-door supermini that has been offered as a hybrid since 2011, the Honda Jazz may not be particularly attractive but features plenty of interior space and a reliable powertrain.

The latest generation, built since 2020, also includes a good amount of standard equipment and fairly impressive performance for a small economy car, accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds.
