Oasis-themed guide to the Gallagher brothers' home city of Manchester

EXCLUSIVE: Oasis are back - and whether or not you've secured tickets to one of the Heaton Park shows, this band-themed guide to Manchester will shine the spotlight on all the Gallagher brothers' historic haunts.

Manchester is the location where Britpop legends Noel and Liam Gallagher were born and raised, and where they gave birth to their pivotal album Definitely Maybe, which marked its 30th anniversary this year.

Only the most diehard fans will want to visit the suburb of Burnage, where the brothers' childhood home is located at Cranwell Drive - and where Fog Lane's vintage record store Sifters, made famous in the lyrics of the song 'Shakermaker', still stands. However, there are plenty of other Oasis-themed locations that fans will love in the vibrant city.

Liam was infamously slapped with a ban for life from Manchester's Dry Bar after a night of alleged misbehaviour. However, that venue - which also banned Shaun Ryder - has since closed.

Liam also once advised fans to steer clear of The Elizabethan bar in Heaton Moor after feeling fury that another brother, Paul, had been turned away for wearing his "tracky bottoms". Manager Hugh Smyth later defended the strict dress code to the Manchester Evening News, telling the publication: "It’s mainly an issue with quite visual sportswear, tracksuits with the stripes down, that kind of thing."

However, one venue that has met with the Gallaghers' seal of approval is the Hard Rock Cafe, which stands in the city centre and has walls lined with Oasis memorabilia. The American-style burgers and milkshakes might not totally be Britpop in style, but Oasis brought their legendary British attitudes with them when they were there - and now revellers can check out their legacy at the venue thanks to the vintage records and musical instruments once belonging to the group.

A stone's throw from there is the Manchester Arena, which is so close to the city's railway station that fans can walk directly from the train platform into the venue without so much as stepping foot outdoors.

Both brothers have performed there, with Noel famously reopening the arena for the first time after the tragic terror attack that took place during an Ariana Grande concert in 2017.

As he launched into Oasis classic 'Don't Look Back In Anger', he fought tears, telling the 14,000-strong audience: "Every time you sing, we win - so sing like you've never sung before!"

Sadly, the famous Hacienda nightclub which once hosted the Definitely Maybe album's launch party back in 1994 is now closed, while the nearby Boardwalk venue, where Oasis made their first ever live performance in 1991, has also closed its doors.

However, fans can still check out the commemorative plaque outside the latter venue.

Another location the Gallaghers still love today is the Manchester City Football Club, which played host to numerous Oasis concerts in the past and has often seen the brothers visit on major match days.

The pair used to play footie themselves, so after touring the Oasis memorabilia at the club's VIP suite section, check out the location where they once bought their trainers in anticipation of having a kickabout.

The best venue for that might be Afflecks, a shopping emporium where retro trainers like the brothers' teenage favourites, Adidas Samba, can still be found.

Superfans may want to check out the Johnny Roadhouse Music store where the brothers once bought guitars and which famously featured in their video for 'The Masterplan'; their bandmate Paul "Bonehead" Arthur's former guitar is still on the premises.

Fog Lane Park, where the brothers once played football, also featured in a music video - this time for the song 'Shakermaker'.

Meanwhile, multiple companies offer in-depth tours of where Oasis grew up, for those who'd like to be shown around by an expert - and there's even the opportunity to see Bonehead's former house.

Brit Music Tours director Lewis Swan told us: "On our Manchester Music Walking Tour fans can see some of the places connected with the iconic band Oasis including gig venues, record shops they visited and where the Gallagher brothers famously posed for a photo shoot early in their career. Searching for where to stay?

The Indigo Hotel Manchester is directly opposite Manchester Victoria railway station and the AO Arena is a stone's throw from the famous Hard Rock Cafe and its legendary Oasis memorabilia.

If you'd rather be closer to the main city centre, perhaps the most aesthetically stunning hotel in all of Manchester is the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, with a huge bronze horse in the glitzy marble-floored lobby, sculpted by Charles Dickens' grand-daughter.

The Refuge Bar inside is renowned as a great place to get a roast dinner, while for those on a budget the EasyHotel Manchester, a short walk from Piccadilly Station and the Etihad Stadium, is also well located.

Meanwhile, there's a new Oasis attraction in town: a visually arresting mural of the Gallagher brothers has popped up on the side of the Sifters record store.
