Countryfile star Matt Baker shared a touching update with his fans about his mum’s recovery after her knee replacement surgery, which came after a terrifying farming accident.

The 46-year-old former Blue Peter presenter has been a staple on BBC's Countryfile since he joined the series in 2009. Over the years, Matt has become a beloved figure on the show, known for his engaging storytelling and passion for rural life.

The TV presenter was also a familiar face on The One Show, where he co-presented from 2011 to 2020, alongside Alex Jones.

Sadly, in 2021, Matt’s mum was involved in a severe accident while working in the sheep pen. She was trampled by the animals, which led to a fractured leg.

Three years later, the star shared an update on his mum's health, revealing she's doing well and described the accident as a bit of a blessing in disguise. He explained that as people age, farming becomes increasingly challenging, so they’ve made adjustments for Janice to ease her workload.

He told The Sun: "She's doing good, and it was a bit of a blessing in disguise really. Because you know as your parents get older, farming is a really tough job and you just can't keep going at that level.

"So we reduced the flop down and changed the breeds over to stuff that's easier for my mum to look after, because she's the sort of, she's the main checker there. So we did that and things are going great now."

Recently, Matt revealed that he will be hitting the road again with Janice and dad Mike for another series of Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad.

Opening up about the new series, Matt reveals he had to “supersize” the concept of rural days out due to challenges with his parents' age.

Matt exclusively told The Express: "We used to do these little trips away, where we would go and see how our wool was being processed in the wool mills, and so we just basically supersized that concept of these rural days out.

"And the key with it is they're always close to home because obviously, having a farm you can't go far. And plus, with the dad being like 80, the reality of them planning to go on some sort of adventure was never going to be the case."
