DWTS pro Artem Chigvintsev 'shoved and kicked' Fern Britton on Strictly Come Dancing

Artem Chigvintsev, a Russian professional dancer, was arrested on allegations of domestic violence.

The Dancing with the Stars professional was taken into custody on Thursday, August 29 in Napa Valley, California, and charged with felony corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant.

After posting a $25,000 bail, he was released from jail. Specifics about the charge remain unclear, as does the involvement of his wife and former WWE star, Nikki Garcia (formerly known as Nikki Bella), in the alleged incident.

This isn't Artem's first brush with abuse allegations, having been hit with claims on the UK's dancing show.

Fern Britton, one of his partner's while on Strictly Come Dancing, accused him of "kicking and shoving" her at the time.

In 2015, Fern told HuffPost UK: "We would be in hold and he would look at my feet and just kick me or shove me."

Fern also claimed that Artem would often tell her to "shut up" and threaten to "killed" her if she didn't stand still while he danced around her.

She recalled: "I would say, 'Oh please just kill me, it would be easier.'

Or what was his other one? 'If you go for a cup of tea now, I will blow off like an atomic bomb.' I thought, 'Well, I won't correct him on that one.'"

Fern also suggested that Artem leveraged his relationship with then-girlfriend Kara Tointon as a justification for his treatment towards her, given she wasn't "younger and with dance ability."

Despite Artem's alleged disrespect, Fern maintained they were friends.

She stated: "We did love each other for a moment or two but he wasn't charm personified. I did kind of enjoy it but it was grim at the same time."

Artem later refuted these allegations in an interview with the Daily Express, asserting: "I believe I treated Fern with respect and genuine care and these claims about me are the opposite of everything I believe in and the person I am.

"I cannot imagine what has prompted such statements which come as a shock to me."
