Matt Willis has admitted his wife Emma is not “super keen” on her anniversary present.

Busted star Matt and television presenter Emma celebrated 16 years together, during which the musician has been open about his struggles with drugs and alcohol. The pair are however settled down now with their three children.

To make their anniversary, Matt, 41, revealed he had a picture of Emma’s face tattooed on his calf. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “She’s not super keen. It's a biggie. Still a bit scabby, I need to put moisturiser on it.”

Emma, 48, explained she wasn’t keen on the picture used for the tattoo. She replied: “It's such an old picture of me.”

The couple first met when Busted were on a show Emma was presenting on, but there was no sign of romance until they encountered each other again on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in 2004. Remembering their rapport with each other, a friend gave Matt Emma’s number.

He revealed he “waited a couple of days” and then gave her a call, not wanting to seem “too keen”. Emma admits she didn’t have any “major expectations” from their relationship, but 20 years on and the pair are going strong.

Matt, who was just 19 when Busted made it big, admits he was drinking heavily and taking drugs when he met Emma. He reached a crisis point just months before their wedding, leaving rehab just three days before they said “I do”.

Matt says he was “scared” the wedding wasn’t going to go ahead, fearing he “couldn’t be the man” he felt Emma deserves. Despite admitting to relapses in the past, Matt says he is now completely sober.

He added: “What makes a relationship is what you do in s*** times. Do you cut and run, or do you support each other?”

The pair are now preparing to front the UK version of Love is Blind. The hit Netflix show sees contestants put in pods and dating each other through frosted glass.

Each picks potential partners and their relationships flourish. If they like each other they can get “engaged” and meet face-to-face outside the pods, living life together for a month before their legal wedding day where they will say “I do” or even “I don’t”.

It will be the first time Matt and Emma have worked together on a TV show. And the Busted star doesn’t think they would have got together had they met in the famous pods.

He said: “I would feel so pressured to say the right thing that I would say something stupid and regret it massively.”

Emma disagrees however, she says Matt is the “most charismatic person” she has met. She has “no doubts” his personality would have shone through even with the screen.

  • Love Is Blind UK is available on Netflix from August 7.
