Strictly Come Dancing is reportedly set for a major overhaul after misconduct claims were made against professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima in recent months.

Both dancers have not been named as professionals taking part in the upcoming scenes, but Giovanni has denied all claims made against him and said in a statement that he wants to "clear his name".

Earlier this week, pro-dancer Nadiya Bychkova reportedly met with BBC bosses to complain about the programme. The 34-year-old Ukrainian dancer is allegedly "upset" about issues surrounding the series, according to Mail Online.

It has now come to light that the well-loved BBC show will be "cleaned up" to ensure the programme can continue airing.

Sources have told Mail Online a "rescue plan" has been hatched to ensure Strictly Come Dancing avoids future controversy and lets "the jewel in the crown of BBC entertainment" continue airing.

They told the publication: "Make no mistake, BBC bosses have been shaken by what's happened over the past few months.

"Strictly is a family show and the headlines have made for some difficult discussions over what's been going on.

"But Strictly's the jewel at the crown of the BBC, there is currently no way they are going to axe it."

They claimed it "needs a clean up" and admitted "bullying claims are very damaging" but highlighted how dozens of dance partnerships have gone down without a hitch.

"But it would take something seismic for the BBC to do away with one of, if not their biggest, assets," they added, before stating the show's axing is not on the agenda.

The BBC has been contacted for comment by Express.co.uk.

Strictly has been under a microscope after actress Amanda Abbington accused Giovanni of "threatening and abusive behaviour" in January months after she dropped out of the 2023 series after just five weeks in the competition.

At the weekend, reports emerged of Graziano's sacking from the programme after he allegedly abused his 2023 partner Zara McDermott.

Mark Borkowski, a spokesperson for the show, confirmed Graziano kicked Zara once during rehearsals last year, which caused him to be axed from the BBC programme.

The video of the incident is understood to have been brought to the broadcaster's attention last week, with Mark adding: "It’s a matter of public record that the BBC deemed the conduct to be so severe that they removed him from the show immediately."

Graziano said in a social media statement at the weekend that he "deeply regrets" the events which led to his exit from the show.
