David Walliams believes the royal family need "fun" Prince Harry back. The 39-year-old stepped back from royal duties and moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020.

While the Duke of Sussex shared a close bond with his family, especially Prince William, it is believed the brothers are now "estranged", having not spoken in nearly two years.

There has been speculation ever since about whether the dad-of-two could reconcile with his family. Walliams, 53, has been friends with Harry since he made their first interaction highly memorable at a party they both attended.

The former Britain's Got Talent judge recalled: "The first time I met him was at a party when he pulled his trousers down, exposed his bottom and slapped it, saying, 'Hey, come on Walliams, do you want a bit of this!'

"Then we ended up working out at the same gym when he would say, 'Walliams, wait for me'. We would sit together in the steam room and chat. He's a very lovely boy."

Asked if there is a way back for Harry into the royal fold, Walliams responded: "If he wants it. The thing is they need him. He's the most popular royal by miles, he's the one everyone likes. The others are quite boring. He's the fun one."

Harry is often criticised for turning his back on his family, which Walliams admitted makes him feel sad.

"He's a great laugh and it makes me sad sometimes when he's portrayed in a bad light because he's making the best of it," the best-selling children's author said. "It's a very tough life in many ways, you are famous from the moment you are born, he lost his mother, he's become estranged from his father and his brother."

Walliams added: "I wish him well. I wish more people would have met him because he is such a fun, loving, friendly guy."

Despite reports suggesting Harry would like to return to the UK, insiders have slammed the idea and said he has "no interest" in royal duties.

There has been speculation that the Duke of Sussex wants a fresh start with his loved ones in the UK and even to return as a senior Royal.

But sources told the Telegraph that the rumours are untrue, saying that Harry is happy and settled in California with “amazing” friends and several projects coming up.
