Susanna Reid issued some "breaking news" before she was forced to pull out of Good Morning Britain. The presenter, 53, returned to the ITV programme on Monday (September 2) for the first time in nearly two months after taking time off for the summer holidays.

After the three-hour show had concluded, Susanna took to Instagram to share an update on one of her co-stars. The broadcaster penned: "Breaking News! @adilray is back in the afternoons with Lingo 3pm today!"

Susanna was set to host the show once again with Ed Balls on Tuesday, however, Ranvir Singh stepped in as her replacement following a medical emergency.

Before the show got underway, Ranvir said: "If you're wondering where Susanna is, one of her boys has been taken ill overnight and she needed to stay with him, so we are here for you this morning."

On her return to work, Susanna faced criticism from viewers as she discussed taking children out of school during term time. Fans claimed that the mum-of-three supported the idea that children should not be removed from school during term time, leading to a flurry of complaints.

Flocking to social media, one wrote: "So funny, Susanna who can’t manage an attendance rate of 50% shows mock outrage at kids taking a holiday."

Hitting out at the presenters, another shared: "Such an ignorant view! What about the mass home educated population who go on to thrive! Please do better! You are sharing harmful untrue information to scare parents purely for the benefit of the government."

A third commented: "Simply untrue about kids missing some days of education impacting their earning potential. How very one size fits all of you."

Earlier in the week, Susanna admitted she couldn't wait to get back to the show. She said: "I love doing my job - the news agenda has been so busy and I have been avidly watching GMB while I have been off. This autumn we have the US Presidential election coming up so that’s going to be huge."

Speaking about how she spent the summer with her children, she added: " This summer I took my boys to Ibiza. I have been going for ten years and it was amazing to really enjoy it with my boys now they are old enough to go clubbing. We go to the day clubs together and then I go back to the hotel and they go to the nightclubs!"

Susanna shares three sons; Sam, Finn, and Jack with ex-husband Dominic Cotton.
