Gemma Atkinson opened up on her heartbreak as the former Emmerdale actress announced her youngest son will be turning one. The Hits Radio DJ, 39, shares daughter Mia and her son Thiago with her fiance Gorka Marquez.

The ex-Hollyoaks star admitted while she is looking forward to her baby boy's birthday the presenter is admittedly "sad" her beloved dog is not around.

She sadly lost her dog Norman at the end of June, heartbreakingly in the same week that daughter Mia turned five. Now, she's celebrating her son's first birthday as she made a sad admission.

In a post shared on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (July 16), Gemma said: "Can’t believe Tio is one tomorrow, time flies. [Crying emoji] Sad Norman isn’t here to witness him walking around. He’d have loved this stage following him around the house.”

In another post shared on Wednesday, Gemma gushed over her son. She said: “Thiago Thomas, what would we do without you. Such a happy, loving, cheeky and curious bundle of joy. You make us smile every single day and you couldn’t be more loved.

“Thank you for allowing me to become a mum again. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to have two beautiful children. You and your sister are the perfect duo. I can’t wait to see you grow together and witness the shenanigans you both get up to. Happy birthday darling boy! We love you.”

The DriveTime presenter previously opened up about her tragic loss.

Her dog Norman, 12, died after Gemma made the heartbreaking decision to end his pain and suffering.

Opening up about the 'awful decision' she had to make, on her radio show alongside Mike Toolan on Hits Radio, Gemma said: "I had to say goodbye to my wonder dog Norman over the weekend.

You have to be their voice throughout their whole life, make their decisions, you know, help them and had I gone a day longer, not making that awful decision, I would have been doing Norm injustice and I had always put him first and not me.

"Although, selfishly I still want him here," she concluded.
