Hollywood descends on Venice Film Festival led by Angelina Jolie and Beetlejuice stars

Angelina Jolie, Sigourney Weaver and Beetlejuice stars Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton have arrived in Venice ahead of the 81st Film Festival.

Angelina, 49, looked demure as she was spotted at the Italian airport wearing a beige trench coat and large sunglasses. The Oscar winner will attend the screening of her new film Maria - a biographical drama about opera singer Maria Callas.

Her ex-husband Brad Pitt is also expected to be at the annual festival later in the week alongside George Clooney for their new action comedy, Wolfs.

The eagerly-awaited Beetlejuice sequel will open the festival on Wednesday. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and director Tim Burton are all expected to attend.

Joining arrivals in Venice on Tuesday was Sigourney Weaver. The Alien actress - who is the winner of this year's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award - looked elegant in white wide-legged trousers, paired with a black blazer and a smart fedora hat.

Sigourney said ahead of receiving the honour: "To be gifted this award is a privilege I share with all the filmmakers and collaborators I have worked with throughout the years. I proudly accept this award in celebration of all who have helped bring these films to life."

The 81st Venice International Film Festival will be held on the Lido di Venezia from August 28 to September 7.
