Eamonn Holmes' pal speaks out on his heartbreaking marriage split despite 'strong' mindset

Eamonn Holmes split with Ruth Langsford this spring after 14 years of marriage - and a pal spoke out about it ahead of his big win at the TRIC Awards today.

Eamonn Holmes' pal and colleague Isabel Webster, who works on GB News alongside him, took to the red carpet at the TRIC Awards today to share her thoughts on the split. The 41-year-old branded him "the strongest person I know" as she wished him all the best for healing from his difficult break-up.

She also made it clear that she isn't taking sides or feeling hostility against either party, explaining: "I love Ruth and I love Eamonn and I've got nothing but love for them." Isabel continued that she's ready to support her colleague "100 percent", adding that she has also been in touch with Ruth since the news broke.

"I wish them all the very best - divorce is difficult for anyone," she mused. "When you're in the public eye, it's got to be even more difficult." The newsreader made her comments to The Sun this afternoon, as she revealed that she and her GB News colleagues are "like a little team".

With the channel up for four nominations, excitement was running high today, and Isabel explained that, while not present alongside her at the time, Eamonn was already "inside and ready to go". She continued encouragingly: "He is absolutely fine. The guy is the strongest person I know - and he has his little team rooting for him and there for him!"

Later in the afternoon, the pair teamed up to collect an award on behalf of their channel, after GB News Breakfast netted the Best News gong. Eamonn had joined the channel just a couple of years ago, after departing ITV's This Morning.

Some suggested this job change could have contributed to his split from Ruth, as the pair had been interacting each morning when they were both on ITV together, but are thought to have grown apart after he moved on to a different channel.

Ruth has remained on ITV and is a hit on shows such as Loose Women, but it led to them spending much less time together.

In one interview with TalkTV, Eamonn addressed the issue, explaining: "Although we live together, we're not really together... Ruth likes her own space [and] when we do This Morning it's a rare time we actually interrelate."

Other factors that may have led to them parting ways include Eamonn's yearning for home - his native Belfast in Northern Ireland - and his desire to spend time there.

He previously suggested that he wouldn't have moved to England if he'd been able to get a job of the same stature back home - and Ruth's preference for London and Surrey seemed to have divided them.

Eamonn talked of the "irritation" the matter caused his wife in an interview with The Sun last year, explaining: "When people ask me what I'm doing at the weekend, I tell them I'm going home."

He added: "My wife gets very irritated by this. She says, 'This is your home' and I say, 'No Ruth, this is where I work. This is where I have to be, but home [is Belfast].'"

Eamonn has since moved out of their Surrey mansion and has been spending more time with a female companion - a counsellor with whom he first connected through work.

Meanwhile, the last time Eamonn and Ruth appeared together on social media was as part of a skit to promote her Feeling Fabulous event.

The pair are thought to have parted on amicable terms and now, as they adjust to life separately, will be discussing custody arrangements for Maggie, the much-loved rescue dog they share who has been like a "daughter" to them.
