The TOWIE alum revealed she was shocked to learn the 69-year-old had a do-not-resuscitate order in place, in the event her heart or breathing stopped.

During the book launch of Steve Bennett's Fibre First diet, the reality star shared that this was among one of the many “stresses” she’s faced over “the last couple of weeks.”

The 43-year-old recalled: “My mum was suddenly taken into hospital and I was told she could die.

“They would not resuscitate her if she went into cardiac arrest.

"So imagine that, you know, I'm in the hospital having been out for dinner the day before, and then the next day I'm like, 'wow', so that was a massive shock.”

Gemma continued: “Rami's father passed away, which was also a massive shock.”

Detailing her emotional week, she told The Sun: “Then someone bit my dog and then my chicken died.

“It's a lot to deal with for one person in a week and you know, I still have to go to work.”

Despite the worrying ordeal, Gemma said that Joan, who spent time in intensive care, was on the mend and doing “amazing.”

The bride-to-be has been open about her mum’s health struggles in the past after revealing she had discovered a lump in her breast and armpit.

At the time, Joan decided not to tell the star until she got the all-clear for fear she would fall apart at the news.

As a result, Gemma has encouraged fans to check their body for lumps and has gotten a BRCA gene test which screens DNA to assess the risk of getting breast cancer in the future
