Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge left his wife 'horrified' after he branded her 'unemployable' in an awkward row at home.

Talking to Andi and Miquita Oliver on their Stirring It Up podcast, the 50-year-old revealed he made the regrettable comment about his wife Beth Cullen-Kerridge 'late at night'.

It came after host Andi - a TV and radio broadcaster - revealed a previous guest had said they were 'unemployable', leading the podcaster to describe herself as 'useless'.

Andi admitted: "I am unemployable, I’m useless."

Tom replied: “I told Beth she was unemployable.”

Beth, who has been married to the BBC Great British Menu judge since 2000, interjected: "I was quite horrified.”

Tom explained: "That was one of those comments that I made late at night about 11:30pm watching telly.

“And then I thought oh f*****g hell, what have I started here?”

Host Andiquipped: "It’s like, why would you say that to your wife? I’ve only met her once and I wouldn’t say that.”

Miquita attempted to delve into Tom's rationale for the comment, prompting him to explain that he meant Beth was a 'free spirit' who 'could not be tethered'.

"That’s exactly what I was able to explain about three-and-a-half hours later," he added, cheekily hinting at the couple's row over the remark.

The chef has been open about his marriage recently, revealing he accepted Beth's proposal just six weeks after they met in a bar in Camden, London.

At the time, Tom said he wasn't supposed to go out after a long day of working, but was convinced to do so by his pals, but, unbeknownst to him, he was just about to meet the love of his life.

Sculptor Beth is currently working on a new exhibition.

She often gives fans an insight into her career and family life on her Instagram page, which includes pictures of their nine-year-old son Acey.

Beth had previously put a pause to her art career when Tom was opening his first restaurant, The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, so she could help in the business.

Previously, she revealed: "I did actually say: ‘I’ll give you three years, else I’ll end up hating you'.

"I thought he needed to just cook, so I was the accountant, handyman, electrician, front of house, bar, everything – I just wanted him to cook. He did, and it flew.”

Since then, the business has now expanded across five restaurants in the UK which includes The Bull and Bear in Manchester.
