Tom Kerridge has made a rare admission about his marriage to wife Beth Cullen-Kerridge, whom he credits as the one person who knows when he needs to take time out of his busy schedule. The 54-year-old accepted Beth's marriage proposal just six weeks after they met in a bar in Camden, London.

At the time, Tom said he wasn't supposed to go out after a long day of working but was convinced to do so by his pals, unbeknownst to him, he was just about to meet the love of his life. Fast forward the years, and Tom has revealed that while he missed out on lads holidays due to his work, he has fond memories with his wife in the likes of Magaluf from their younger years.

Quizzed on if she was a raver on Alan Carr's Life Is A Beach podcast, he said: "Back in the day, we're very old now." Tom went on to credit his wife for dragging him away from his chaotic schedule, as he admits not knowing when to take a break.

"I'm always mostly late for everything, I'm always supposed to be somewhere else, I'm always working," he shared. "I love the working hard, I love the constant chaos of my life. There's six or seven hospitality things that we do. I don't very often stop, Beth, my wife, will normally book up and say right that's the block, that's when we're going away."

On the same topic, the chef said he has never had a holiday romance, but joked one night stands were "a good thing", to which Alan continued: "While all your lad friends were out sailing the sea, you were out there with Aunt Bessie. There's two women in your life, your wife and Aunt Bessie," which prompted Tom to laugh.

While Alan assumed the chef would take issue with the food brand, Tom said he wasn't against people using pre-made food, but also assured people it is easy to make your own.

Famed for his recipes, Tom prefers to cook his own way and mostly enjoys tucking into his "happiest meal", a slow-cooked beef stew.

"I like to put it in the oven first thing, at a low temperature, come back four hours later and be greeted by that lovely smell," he shared with Hello! Magazine.

"A beef stew connects the family and we sit down with no distractions and talk. Spending my time with them is the best, especially when my wife tells me about her work in the art world and I can go along to her events and they're not about me."

Tom's wife works as a sculptor, who is currently working on a new exhibition.

The artist often gives fans an insight into her career and family life on her Instagram page, which includes pictures of their nine-year-old son Acey.

Managing to keep their respective careers in parallel has been an important factor of why their 24-year marriage has worked, as told by Beth in a previous interview with The Guardian.

When the couple were setting up their first restaurant The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, the mother-of-one took a stepback from her career to support the business.

She shared: "I had to dig deep, but I knew that I wasn’t going to do it for ever.

“I did actually say: ‘I’ll give you three years, else I’ll end up hating you'.

"I thought he needed to just cook, so I was the accountant, handyman, electrician, front of house, bar, everything – I just wanted him to cook. He did, and it flew.”

19 years on from their first restaurant opening, the business has now expanded across five restaurants in the UK which includes The Bull and Bear in Manchester.
