Piers Morgan gives rare glimpse at childhood as he pays tribute to 'greatest inspiration'

Piers Morgan has shared a heartwarming glimpse into his childhood as he marked his mother's birthday. The outspoken journalist uploaded a sweet image of himself when he was a tiny baby being embraced by his mum.

He added the caption: "Happy 80th birthday to my fabulous mother. My biggest and most loyal supporter, my most astute critic, and my greatest inspiration and role model. Quite simply, the finest and most selfless person I have ever known."

Many of his 2.2 million followers flooded the comments section with warm wishes. ITV host Lorraine Kelly quipped: "Thought she was your sister! Gorgeous woman - have a great day."

Another fan also commented: "Wonderful words. She sounds a remarkable person." ITV presenter Kate Garraway also said: "She’s gorgeous ! Happy birthday mamma morgan."

A fourth follower also typed: "She looks AMAZING! HBD to your Mum." A fifth person said: "80? Wow! Looks amazing! Happy 80th Birthday! x."

Piers Morgan started his journalism career in 1988 at The Sun and is arguably one of the most well-known figures in British news. The 59-year-old later went on to edit the Daily Mirror and News of the World.

He has three sons from a previous marriage with Marion Shalloe: Spencer, Stanley and Albert. Piers Morgan tied the knot with his wife Celia Walden in 2011 and they share one daughter.

It is reported that Piers first met Celia in 2006 when he was interviewing her for a British GQ shoot she was working on at the time. They later got married in April 2011 in Swinbrook.

He posted to his followers: "It’s true. I’ve become a dad for the fourth time, to a baby girl called Elise. She’s absurdly beautiful and utterly adorable."

Piers later shared in an Instagram post that he named his daughter after his grandmother. He penned: "My late, great highly rebellious grandmother Margot used to delight in wrecking every family photo by pulling silly faces.
