Loose Women panellists Coleen Nolan and Ruth Langsford once exchanged some seemingly sharp remarks, with them both eventually confessing they "never liked" one another.

The hit ITV programme featured the pair alongside Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor and Brenda Edwards, as they all delved into the topic of first impressions and their lasting effects.

Ruth conceded live on air that it's a common human tendency to form judgements upon first encounters elaborating: "It's natural human instinct to make a first impression. It just is - even if you try not to."

She explained further: "Naturally, the minute you meet someone - whether it's about their eye contact, their smile, whether they ask something about yourself. Whatever that interaction is, we will make a first impression."

Newcomer at the time Sally expressed her excitement but also her nervousness about her debut on the panel, admitting she felt "really giddy" while Coleen revealed her more reserved nature, confessing she feels 'shy' in crowded environments.

Ruth shared a personal anecdote about a friendship that almost went awry due to initial misjudgments.

The star, who recently split from her husband Eamonn Holmes, revealed that a friend once thought she was "stuck up," whereas Ruth had pegged her friend as 'too loud".

Coleen didn't miss a beat, taking a swipe at Ruth saying: "She's got a point." This prompted a swift and direct response from Ruth, who shot back: "Alright, Coleen!"

The conversation took a humorous turn when Ruth playfully jabbed at her co-star Coleen after her previous remark, quipping: "Never liked you, though. Still don't," which led to an eruption of laughter from the panel and audience.

Coleen appeared momentarily stunned by the somewhat playful jibe.

"Well we've got that in common," Coleen clapped back, as Ruth acknowledged the sharp response exclaiming: "Touche!"

She then quipped, "That's going to be on the front of a magazine now."

Ruth wrapped up the panel discussion with a comforting note to viewers, acknowledging that it's common for people to have initial judgments and shared feelings of self-improvement.

"All of us have talked about our insecurities," she said.

"Imagine, in every public situation with strangers, everyone is grappling with the same insecurities. You reckon you're alone in this, but you're not - it's quite fascinating, really."

Loose Women airs from 12:30pm on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
