Piers Morgan's toxic relationship with the RMT union boss has taken a U-turn after the pair met in person for the first time.

Piers Morgan has said he and Mick Lynch could be "the dream double act" after the pair came face-to-face for the first time on Tuesday's Newsnight. Piers, 59, has had a fair few run-ins with the RMT union boss during previous on-air interviews, where both have refused to back down on their views.

Speaking on Double Down News last year, Mick also hit out at Piers claiming he was "full of bile" and accused him of "hate speech". After their first in-person encounter however, the broadcaster admitted they got on better than he thought amid viewers' calls for a reunion.

The pair got together for a special Newsnight episode, hosted by Victoria Derbyshire, to discuss Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer's first televised debate ahead of the general election. As the conversation unfolded, many flocked to the platform X to share their thoughts on the pair having a much calmer debate than usual.

One wrote: "Bizarrely a decent debate between @piersmorgan and Mick Lynch! Lynch always armed with a lot of detail and very measured. Morgan also sensible. Good debate between the pair which was refreshing. A future unexpected podcast maybe?! #newsnight."

In response, Piers wrote in view of his 8.7 million followers: "I just told Mick we may be the dream double act Britain never knew it needed." The TalkTV host went on to share a tweet from another viewer who praised the pair's discussion.

The social media user wrote: "I did not expect to say this: Piers Morgan and Mick Lynch have just been a very engaging and impressive duo as post-debate pundits on @BBCNewsnight."

This comment prompted many more to call for the pair to work alongside each other again.

A third added: "Crazy as it may seem... you are spot on. Get them back on together asap!"

"Indeed have them on again," another agreed.

More recently, Piers shared a picture of him sat between Victoria and Mick on the sofa, with all three smiling for the camera.

Praising the latter, he wrote: "Great fun doing @BBCNewsnight. Never met my co-panellist Mick Lynch before, though we’ve locked horns a few times in down-the-line interviews.

"But we bonded backstage over tea & biscuits. Whisper it quietly but he’s a lot of fun beneath the scowl. @vicderbyshire."

During the discussion on Newsnight, the TalkTV host said he believes Sunak won the debate and praised his approach.

Piers also expressed his horror at learning that Reform UK's Nigel Farage had been pelted with a milkshake on his first day of campaigning in Clacton, Essex.

The party leader was seen throwing his hands up to his face while drenched in the drink as security tried to find the culprit.

Essex police has since confirmed that a 25-year-old woman from the area has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Sharing his thoughts on the incident, Piers said: "It's not good. I know [Nigel] was a bit freaked out when the same thing happened in 2019. You know, we've had two MPs killed in this country!

"I don't care what party you're representing - our politicians in this country do not deserve to be treated like that. It's dangerous, it's menacing, it doesn't matter what the substance is - it's the thought of what it might be."
