Piers Morgan rages at Farage milkshake attack and fumes 'MPs have been killed'

Piers Morgan and Mick Lynch appeared together on Newsnight yesterday to discuss Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer's election debate - and tensions ran high.

TalkTV's Piers Morgan was horrified to learn that Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage had been pelted with a milkshake on his very first day of campaigning. Video footage had shown the former UKIP leader throwing his hands up to his face on Tuesday as he reacted to being drenched by the drink in the Essex seaside town of Clacton.

The episode resulted in a 25-year-old woman being arrested - and Piers stormed that her actions had been "dangerous" and "menacing". Talking as Mick Lynch sat beside him, he exclaimed: "It's not good. I know [Nigel] was a bit freaked out when the same thing happened in 2019. You know, we've had two MPs killed in this country!"

He stormed: "I don't care what party you're representing - our politicians in this country do not deserve to be treated like that. It's dangerous, it's menacing, it doesn't matter what the substance is - it's the thought of what it might be."

During the debate, Piers revealed that he thought Tory leader Rishi Sunak had the edge over Labour's Keir Starmer in the election debate, but that both the parties they represent have a long way to go. Despite being known for his right-wing politics, Piers lamented the state of the NHS, suggesting the Conservative Party had "failed" it.

"There's no question - my mother had a heart attack a few months ago and it was a horrific experience to see what A&E is really like these days," he exclaimed. "The reality of the NHS is that when it was designed, it was for 50 million people.

"Now we have 70 million people, and we're living longer and getting to ages where we need more treatments - how are we dealing with that big picture?" he quizzed.

"I don't think either side has the answer, and they don't for immigration either and they don't really for the economy," he continued.

For some right-wing supporters, Nigel Farage is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly polluted political environment.

However, voices among these have suggested that a vote for the Reform Party, which is unlikely to win a majority, will merely take votes away from the Conservatives, increasing the lead that Labour now has.

The latest poll, which collected data from 58,000 people, suggested that Labour will win by a majority in the election and that the gap between Labour and the Conservative Party is widening.

Meanwhile, Essex Police released a statement regarding the milkshake incident, confirming that two arrests had been made.

"We were called to the area of Marine Parade East, Clacton, at around 2.10pm. It was reported a man had a drink thrown over him as he left a premises in the area," the statement read.

“A 25-year-old woman, from Clacton, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.”
