Ruth Langsford is said to be masking "her nerves and anxiety" with a "fake" smile as she puts on a brave face following her split from long-term husband Eamonn Holmes. On Saturday, a spokesperson for Ruth told The Sun that the pair, who married in 2010, had "confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing".

Ruth, 64, who is yet to speak out in her own words about their break-up, was seen yesterday for the first time since the statement was released. Pictures show the presenter smiling for the camera with her wedding ring still on, but also seeming downcast as she stepped into her car.

Seemingly wanting to keep a low profile, the Loose Women star opted to wear sunglasses and kept things casual in leggings, trainers and a coat. Analysing the snaps, body language expert Darren Stanton said Ruth is "putting on a brave face" in public but is "clearly upset" deep down.

On behalf of Spingenie.com, he added: "Coming out of the door, clasping the cup, I don’t think she’s that comfortable airing her private life in public. She recognises that it’s a big news story, because they’re both well-known, respected presenters and a lot of people probably didn’t realise they were going to split up.

"She is a lot less comfortable than Eamonn in the public eye. If you look at the close up of her cup, she’s really gripping it for dear life. That’s a reassurance gesture."

Darren also suggests that Ruth has chosen to keep her wedding ring on until their divorce is finalised, which could take some time.

He added: "It’s almost like the last remnants of the relationship.

"I think the smile is more of a masking smile, as we know, the most faked emotion is happiness and joy - which sometimes masks nerves."

On Tuesday, Eamonn spoke out about their separation for the first time on his GB News show with Isabel Webster.

While still wearing his wedding ring, he shared: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Darren believes Eamonn seemed "more at ease" with their split being made public, while Ruth is a more "private person".

He added: "We can see Eamonn is affected but I do think he’s more resilient than Ruth is."

The couple tied the knot back in 2010 and share 22-year-old son Jack together.

Eamonn also has three other children from his first marriage; daughter Rebecca and two sons Declan and Niall.

According to a source, Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning.

"They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change," the source told The Sun.

The same unnamed person alleged that Eamonn wanted to return to Belfast while Ruth didn't want to move.

“As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night," they added.
