Eamonn Holmes is said to be "blindsided" and "furious" over wife Ruth Langsford's statement about them separating and was reportedly not a part of the news being made public. On Saturday, a spokesperson told The Sun: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Now, a friend of the GB News presenter has said he's been "angry and baffled" by the announcement which appeared to be a joint statement. They told Mail Online: "He literally found out about it a very short time before it was published – you're talking hours.

"It all seems a little bizarre given that the statement said they were hoping to keep it amicable." The friend went on to say that Eamonn, 64, wanted no part of it, adding: "He couldn't see any reason why you would release that statement.

"It was wholly written and signed off by Ruth and her team." Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Ruth and Eamonn for comment.

Yesterday, the father-of-four thanked fans for their support on his GB News Breakfast Show alongside Isabel Webster. Addressing the news, he said: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Ruth is yet to address the split in her own words and has kept a low profile since the statement was shared.

The couple tied the knot back in 2010 and share 22-year-old son Jack together.

Eamonn also has three other children from his first marriage; daughter Rebecca and two sons Declan and Niall.

The couple's split confirmation comes after fans began to speculate about their marriage on social media.

Concerns were first raised in April when Ruth gave an insight into her antics which consisted of a pub lunch and an Easter egg hunt with friends.

With no sighting of Eamonn, one fan asked: "Where is Eamon these days as never see you together?"

In response, another echoed: "I've thought the same!?", while a third wrote: "He is out of the picture these days... even longer."

Another suggested they could be living "separate lives".

According to a source, the pair did just that following their departure from This Morning.

They told The Sun: “Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning. They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change."

The same source alleged that Eamonn wanted to return to Belfast while Ruth didn't want to move. “As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night," they added.

Another source has claimed the pair are planning on staying friends despite the split, with Ruth continuing to be there throughout his health ordeal.
