Eamonn Holmes thanked fans for their support as he briefly opened up about his split from his wife Ruth Langsford, who is yet to speak publicly about their pending divorce.

TV's golden couple left fans devastated over the weekend after announcing they were going their separate ways, releasing the following joint statement: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Speaking on GB News today (May 28) Eamonn, 64, told viewers: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

The former This Morning presenters have been open about the ups and downs they have faced throughout their relationship from health struggles to family losses. Express.co.uk takes an inside look into the couple's challenges from requesting separate bedrooms, to disagreements and getting candid about intimacy.

Eamonn has been vocal in recent years about his ongoing health problems and the impact it has had on his marriage with Ruth.

After suffering a trapped sciatica nerve and a broken shoulder from a horrific fall down the stairs, the GB news star had been relying on some help from his wife at home, especially when it comes to getting ready for work.

In a candid interview in 2022, the broadcaster shared: "For months now I haven't been able to walk, sometimes at all, and it has really taken its toll on everyone around me too. I can't bend down to pick things up so Ruth ends up having to wait on me."

With his early wake-up call and work schedule, it caused the presenter to suggest different sleeping arrangements with his wife at their Surrey home.

Eamonn suggested he remain in the master bedroom with the en suite bathroom while Ruth moved into the spare room.

"I was trying to be considerate. I really struggle getting myself dressed in the mornings because of my back problems, and the last thing she wants is me clattering around with the lights on at 3am," he explained.

But Ruth refused to leave their bedroom as he added to The Sun: "She glared at me angrily and told me in no uncertain terms that she won't be moving, so I think that means I'm being turfed out. She was deadly serious."

The former This Morning host had previously thanked Ruth for her support during his health battles, but later joked things could get tense sometimes.

Speaking to Best, he shared: "I couldn't have got through without her, but we are all human and people's tempers fray. Constantly having to say, 'Please can you', 'Please can I have'... It takes away your dignity and pride.

"Ruth makes me thank her for everything. That starts a fight. She is looking for 'please', that starts more fights. It's the loss of independence."

Ruth also made a candid admission about the couple's private life during a previous episode of Loose Women when talk turned to the bedroom.

The ITV host, who shares son, Jack, 22, with Eamonn, spoke of happier times leaving the audience gobsmacked.

While her fellow panellists – Franke Bridge, Carol McGiffin, and Kelle Bryan – all agreed a sex ban wouldn’t work in their relationships, Ruth admitted there is one thing Eamonn would do to ensure he gets sex.

She said: "You can have all the compliments and the flowers but then, if Eamonn comes home and has used my car and he goes, “Filled the petrol up and did your water bottle,” I’m like, 'Get upstairs right now'".

As the studio audience burst into fits of laughter, Ruth continued: "I hate doing it. Literally, I’ll go round with my petrol light on red, the water bottle empty, smeared [windscreen], I’m like, 'Oh I can’t stop and do that,' so he’ll do it for me and he knows, he knows." She added with a smirk: "Everyone’s got their little trick."

The couple tied the knot in 2010 but have since called it quits.
