Eamonn Holmes branded 'irrational' Ruth Langsford 'difficult to live with’ before split
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford stunned fans by confirming they are "in the process of divorcing" after 27 years together. However, the star had previously hinted their marriage was not exactly perfect.
GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has never shied away from addressing his issues with wife Ruth Langsford. Five years before the couple announced their separation, the star addressed their blazing rows and struggles living together.
During a 2019 appearance on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, Eamonn was very candid about his marriage. Although he initially gushed about being “love-struck” by the Loose Women host when they first met, he went on to claim “she’s very difficult to live with”.
Eamonn recalled: “I was love-struck straight away, but my mistake was - I assumed that I’m finding someone with the personality of Doris Day. Nothing prepared me for the education I was about to get!
“She would start a fight with an empty room - only with me,” he clarified, before adding that Ruth was known for being kind to others she came into contact with. Eamonn added: “She’s a complete people pleaser with everyone else!
“So I called her ‘the lovely Ruth’, because everywhere I go, people would say, ‘Ruth’s lovely’ and I’d say, ‘try living with Ruth and see how lovely she is!’
“She is lovely, she’s a very decent human being, but she’s irrational, she’s easily frightened…” Eamonn claimed, before Kate stepped in to defend her friend.
The podcast host praised Ruth’s “amazing morals, huge heart and smart mind,” prompting Eamonn to wholeheartedly agree with her, but also to insist she wasn’t perfect.
The TV star replied: “She’s a good person, all that and above - granted - but she’s very difficult to live with.

“She suffers from claustrophobia, agoraphobia, Eamonn-phobia, so my role in life is to look after her.
“But when I say that, I watch her from afar - she doesn’t need me in her life - she’s very strident and very independent. But I know what she needs me for, and I’m there for what she needs me for.”
A spokesperson for Eamonn and Ruth confirmed “they are in the process of divorcing,” after 27 years together, and 14 years of marriage, on May 25.
Sources have since claimed their careers played a part in the split with both stars heading in different directions after leaving This Morning in 2021.
