You can’t beat a delicious chippie at the beach, and it’s even better if it doesn’t break the bank.

New Brighton is a little-known seaside town located at the tip of the Wirral peninsula, with a huge stretch of sandy coastline. Apart from being a pretty town with a beach, this place is also home to Britain’s cheapest fish and chip shops.

In a study conducted by Capital on Tap, New Brighton was crowned the cheapest fish and chips in the UK, with an average cost of just £7.67.

Capital on Tap said: "Despite its economical price tag, New Brighton's fish and chips maintain a solid reputation with a commendable rating of 4.3 out of 5. This combination of affordability and quality makes it a clear favourite among budget-conscious diners who refuse to compromise on taste."

The coastal town boasts several very reasonably priced chippies, including The Seaside Cafe, which is decorated in an endearingly traditional style.

While MajN66 said: “The best fish and chips for miles. Quick service and excellent food. The price is very reasonable.”

But The Seaside Cafe isn’t the only cheap chippie in the town, Helen’s Fish & Chips is also a popular chippie with decent prices.

Stace Conroy on Google said: “All I can say is Helen’s Chippy is the Mecca of all Chip Shops at the moment in my opinion - freshly cooked chips, Fish is cooked nicely, but the Salt n Pepper Chips well they were like out there on planet Mars THEY WERE were amazing!!”

Prices at Helen’s Fish & Chips are said to range between a very affordable £1-10.

More brilliantly priced fish and chips can be bought at Sun Hua Fish & Chips, New World, and Perch Fish Bar, plus many more.

Not only can you get a delicious bag of chips for next to nothing, but New Brighton is also a pretty town with some beautiful English coastal views.

It was also the filming location for Sky One drama Cobra, a British political series starring Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton.

So if you’re after a budget-friendly English coastal retreat, look no further than the Wirral’s New Brighton.
