A pretty island located in a popular tourist destination has been named the best place to visit in September.

Whilst it’s the second-largest Greek island, Evia is often overlooked by tourists making it a hidden gem for those looking for an authentic Greek holiday.

Travel experts at Club Med have placed the island among the top destinations to visit in the next two months.

Evia, also known as Euboea, is the second-largest island in Greece, located just off the eastern coast of the mainland.

It's known for its diverse landscapes, which range from beautiful beaches and lush forests to rugged mountains.

The island offers a mix of serene coastal villages, lively towns, and historical sites, making it a popular destination for both tourists and locals.

The best time to visit is between mid-April to early June and late-September to October. These months offer pleasant weather ideal for outdoor activities and exploration.

One of the island's notable features is its accessibility. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge at Chalkida, the island's capital, which makes it easy to reach by car.

Chalkida itself is famous for the phenomenon of the "Euripus tide", where the direction of the current in the Euripus Strait changes every six hours.

Evia is also rich in history and culture. The island has been inhabited since ancient times, with numerous archaeological sites, including the ruins of the ancient city of Eretria.

Additionally, Evia is known for its traditional villages, where visitors can experience authentic Greek hospitality and cuisine.

The island's natural beauty is a significant draw. Evia boasts a variety of beaches, from sandy shores to pebbly coves, many of which are less crowded than those on more popular islands.

The interior of the island is mountainous, offering excellent hiking opportunities, particularly in areas like the Dirfi and Ochi mountains.

Evia also has a strong agricultural tradition, with local products such as honey, olive oil, and wine being highly regarded.
