Wimbledon ready to offer Andy Murray job after Brit ruled out of Grand Slam
Wimbledon will hope to host Andy Murray for one last time this summer.
Wimbledon chiefs are prepared to offer Andy Murray a role at the All England Club should the tennis legend retire this year. The two-time Wimbledon champion has previously hinted that he would step away from the professional tennis circuit after the summer’s action.
Murray is expected to be ruled out of what could be his final Wimbledon this summer. It was reported by the Daily Telegraph that the former world No 1 had undergone surgery on a spinal cyst he suffered at Queen’s Club last Wednesday.
The ATP posted and then subsequently deleted a post on social media platform X claiming that Murray would miss Wimbledon. His mother, Judy Murray, has since hit out at the leak of his private medical information and insists there remains a chance he could play at the Championships.
Even if Murray does not participate at Wimbledon this year, the All England Club are ready to have a ‘conversation’ with the 37-year-old over a post-retirement role. Debbie Jevans, the All England Club’s chair, says plans are in place to mark Murray’s career.

“We’ve been thinking how to mark the occasion if Andy should choose to retire, and having discussions with the family,” Jevans told the Daily Telegraph. “Ultimately it’s his choice and we’ll back him with whatever he wants to do. There are plans in place.
“Andy has been such an amazing ambassador for the sport and the country. If he chooses to step down we’ll celebrate accordingly. If there was a time when he wanted to be involved in the club, we’d welcome that conversation with him.”
Murray was forced to retire from his match against Jordan Thompson at Queen’s Club last week. A back problem forced him out of the match and left his dreams of a final Wimbledon appearance dashed.
It was subsequently reported that he would miss the Championships. That, though, has upset his mother.
Judy hit out at reports over Murray’s private medical information and blamed “someone you thought you could trust” as the source of the leak. She insists that Murray remains in with a chance of playing at Wimbledon, which begins on July 1.
“When your private medical details are leaked to the media by someone you thought you could trust. So disappointing,” Judy posted. “And – FYI – not ruled out yet.”
