Wimbledon ace gets his wish after pleading with Andy Murray to withdraw

A tennis player saw his dream come true after messaging Andy Murray with a cheeky request following his injury at Queen's Club last week. Murray is yet to confirm whether or not he will be playing at SW19 after undergoing back surgery over the weekend.

The 37-year-old's hopes of a Wimbledon farewell took a hit when he suffered yet another injury setback while facing Jordan Thompson last week. Murray only managed to complete five games before withdrawing from the match, with the issue forcing him to go under the knife.

Jules Marie, who is ranked 230th in the world, was quick to approach Murray with a cheeky proposition that would allow him to compete in the Wimbledon qualifying rounds.

In a private message on Instagram, Marie wrote: "I'm alternate qualies. Is there any chance you can withdraw from the Wimbledon list before 10am tomorrow to let me play my first Wimbledon? Thank you. My dream."

Murray is yet to officially withdraw from the tournament but Marie's wish of playing at Wimbledon was granted due to Calvin Hemery pulling out of the qualifying stages. It saw him go up against Luca van Assche, but things ended almost as quickly as they started with Marie losing after three sets.

There has been plenty of confusion over Murray's participation at Wimbledon, with conflicting reports failing to paint a clear picture. One report claimed that Murray would miss the tournament, while the ATP posted a message on X stating Murray was out before swiftly deleting it.

Murray's team issued a statement on Monday confirming that he is yet to make a final decision, while his mother Judy slammed a 'disappointing' leak of private information after being left frustrated by media reports.

She wrote on X: "When your private medical details are leaked to the media by someone you thought you could trust. So disappointing. And - FYI - not ruled out yet."

Murray will have just a few days to recover from his operation ahead of Wimbledon, with the main draw set to get underway on Monday. He has already stated that he is not expecting to play beyond the end of the summer, meaning this year's Grand Slam at SW19 is likely to be his last.

He was quick to insist that he did not know if he would be fit enough to play after withdrawing from his match against Thompson at Queen's Club last week, saying: "I wouldn't know. Maybe there is something that can be done between now and then, you know, to help the right side.

"I will get scans tomorrow and get it rechecked and see if there’s anything that can be done."
