Andy Murray's brother makes Wimbledon doubles plea after ditching partner

Jamie Murray has declared it will be “really cool” to play doubles at Wimbledon with his brother Andy. The Scottish siblings are set to team up together for the first time since 2019 at Andy Murray’s likely final home Grand Slam.

And doubles specialist Jamie revealed he asked the double Wimbledon singles champion to play and is awaiting final confirmation this week.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner said: “It would obviously be really cool to do it.

“We've had some amazing experiences on the court together, particularly in Davis Cup and I think for us to be able to play at Wimbledon would be really cool. And from my point of view, hopefully it happens and get good crowd support.

“It's something that we probably wanted to do at some point in our career and maybe now is the only opportunity to do it. So maybe it's a case of now or never, but we'll see.

"I need to figure out what's going to happen first and then go from there.

"I think it's kind of up to him really. it's not necessarily an easy decision for him to commit to playing the doubles. He's obviously got a lot on his plate. I'll speak to him the next couple of days, now he's back home and see what he's thinking.”

Jamie Murray, 38, has taken over as tournament director at the Cinch Championships this year so his regular partner Michael Venus will seek another pairing for the grasscourt season.

Andy Murray, who lost in the first rounds of the singles and doubles at the French Open, is to undergo a minor routine “procedure” on his back this week before starting his grasscourt training. He plans to play in Stuttgart and Queen’s Club before Wimbledon starts on July 1.

Speaking before the claycourt Grand Slam, the 37-year-old said: “When the time is right, I will stop. I don’t know if I will play past the summer.”
