There was action all over the grounds on Friday at the French Open as the doubles players finally got to come out and complete their matches after days of rain delays.

The usual suspects advanced in the singles, with Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner among the winners, while Matteo Arnaldi upset sixth seed Andrey Rublev. Andy Murray and Dan Evans finally started their doubles campaign as wildcards but crashed out.

And there were plenty of unusual stories as Sinner and his compatriot Elisabetta Cocciaretto delighted in their on-court interviews and Stefanos Tsitsipas was left baffled by the crowd’s reaction.

Express Sport takes a look at five things you missed on day six of the French Open.

Tsitsipas confusion

Stefanos Tsitsipas was caught off guard as he stepped up to the microphone to address the Court Suzanne-Lenglen crowd after a convincing 6-3 6-3 6-1 win over Zhizhen Zhang. There was a huge cheer from the fans, interrupting him from speaking. And interviewer Alex Corretja had to inform him that a Frenchman’s match had just been moved to the court. “Let me explain. They just announced Moutet is gonna play here. So everybody’s happy,” the Spaniard laughed as Tsitsipas looked baffled.

Sinner’s fashion statement

Sinner has earned himself something of a reputation after becoming a brand ambassador for Gucci two years ago. The world No. 2 now rocks up to court with custom Gucci bags and has made several appearances in fashion magazines. But the Italian told Fabrice Santoro that he was clueless when it came to his style.

While interviewing him on court, the retired French star asked for some advice, leaving Sinner surprised. “I saw so many nice pictures of you. Me, I’m lost,” Santoro said. But Sinner replied: “You look better than I do,” Sinner replied. Laughing, the Australian Open champion added: “I’m not good at fashion guys. They just give me things to wear and I wear it. I just try to look good. Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes it’s not.”

Paquet’s PSG rackets

French wildcard Chloe Paquet has reached her first Grand Slam third round using rackets named after Paris-Saint Germain players - but Kylian Mbappe was not needed. The world No.136 lost to Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova after knocking out world No.33 Katerina Siniakova for the biggest win of her career.

Versailles-born Paquet, 29, is a big PSG fan and Roland Garros is just a few hundred yards from the Parc des Princes. And the French star said: “My rackets are in the name of the players. I don't have racket No. 1, No. 2. They're the names of the players. There's one racket at the moment which I feel good with, it's with (Marco) Asensio. So it's my lucky racket. I had Kylian, but I withdrew it, unfortunately.

“I started with Asensio, and I continued with (Lucas) Hernandez, and I finished with (Goncalo) Ramos. I didn't take Kylian today. So, it is not a single player who is my favourite; the entire PSG football team.” In a previous interview, Paquet revealed she was a big fan of former PSG player Javier Pastore and added: “I love PSG - I don’t miss a match. I go to the Parc des Princes when I can when I am not at a tournament. I am a PSG fan - not football, PSG!”

Pigeon cleared off court

There was an unusual incident on Court Suzanne-Lenglen during Tsitsipas’ match against Zhang. During a changeover, court attendants had to sweep a dead pigeon off the clay. The roof was shut for the rain and the bird had hit the roof while flying around, meeting its untimely fate.

Cocciaretto charms the crowd

Cocciaretto upset 17th seed Liudmila Samsonova to reach the second week at a Grand Slam for the first time. And she earned plenty of new fans on Court Suzanne-Lenglen as she attempted to speak to them in French. “Hello Paris. I studied French at school but I don't speak very well. Next time I want my French to be better,” the world No. 51 laughed, earning loud cheers. She will now face world No. 3 Coco Gauff.
