Unstoppable Daniil Medvedev destroys Alexander Zverev in ruthless Shanghai Masters win
Daniil Medvedev is the Shanghai Masters champion after cruising past Alexander Zverev in the final.
Daniil Medvedev has continued his astonishing second half of the season by winning his first Shanghai Masters title with victory over Alexander Zverev.
Zverev started the match with winning 4-0 head-to-head record over Medvedev but claimed the Russian was 'the best player in the world' ahead of the match.
And Medvedev proved those credentials in stunning fashion, winning the first set 6-4 as Zverev hit back-to-back double faults.
Then in the second set, he raced into a 5-0 lead as his defensive skills and consistency proved too much for Zverev.
And in just 73 minutes, he served out the match with an ace to complete a 6-4 6-1 win.
It is Medvedev’s third title in six events since July and his second straight Masters title.
Medvedev told the ATP: "Everybody is talking that they need new guys, something new, so I gave them something new. I don’t celebrate my wins, I just stay calm and do my job. Done.
"It’s something outrageous that I’ve done in the last few months. I have been working for it. I just take it and I hope I’m going to do much more."
Medvedev has now moved up to third in the ATP Race to London standings with 5,875 points after victory.
For Zverev, his run to the final puts him on 2,855 and in seventh place with the top eight reaching the season-ending tournament.
