John McEnroe joked he was "disappointed" after Andy Murray claimed that the American was "crazier" than Nick Kyrgios. The trio enjoyed a lighthearted chat on camera at Wimbledon following Murray's elimination from the doubles on Thursday.

He and his brother Jamie were beaten in straight sets by Australian duo Rinky Hijikata and John Peers. That said, Murray, 37, seemed in good spirits and jokingly asked McEnroe if Kyrgios, who's been on punditry duty at SW19 this week, had been "behaving himself".

Playfully, Kyrgios, 29, interjected by turning the barb on McEnroe, 65. "Yeah he [McEnroe] has been good," to which the veteran former tennis star asked Murray: "Do you mean him or me?"

Before the two-time Wimbledon champion could answer, Kyrgios said: "He’s actually, you’re crazier than I am hands down." In response, McEnroe asked Murray for his opinion on the matter but wasn't too happy with the reply.

"I’d probably [say McEnroe was crazier]," Murray, who is a long-time friend of Kyrgios', said. "I maybe know him [Kyrgios] a bit better off the court so, I’ve obviously seen both of you on it and both of you are obviously up there on the crazy spectrum on the court but off it yeah…"

Kyrgios then interrupted, saying: "I’ve got time to make that up though by the time I get to your age." McEnroe then replied: "Man, that’s a little disappointing but it’s honest."

Both McEnroe and Kyrgios are famed for their feisty on-court attitudes. McEnroe was a notorious hothead in his heyday, and his infamous 'you cannot be serious' outburst at Wimbledon in 1981 has been forever etched into tennis folklore.

Kyrgios meanwhile has made a career out of being a maverick, both on and off the court. His aggressive playing style, coupled with his hot temper and flamboyant tendencies have turned him into one of the most much-watched players in modern tennis.

Earlier this month, Kyrgios brazenly stated on Piers Morgan Uncensored that he'd get the better of McEnroe if both players faced each other in their respective primes. "It'd be an easy walk for me. I think so... I'm serving pretty big," the Australian said.

"I mean, it's a different era... I mean, [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal and Novak [Djokovic] have struggled. So, I don't know how McEnroe is going to go against returning my serve.

"He's lucky that he didn't play in this day and age because I don't know how that would have gone for the big fella. He would have probably lashed out a little bit too much on people on social media!"
