US Open confirm seedings for Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty ahead of draw
The US Open women’s singles seedings have been announced and fans now know where the likes of defending champion Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty and Serena Williams are placed for the final Grand Slam of the season.
Naomi Osaka has been confirmed as the top women’s seed for the US Open.
Unlike at Wimbledon where a unique formula is used to decide the seedings, the US Open sticks to the WTA world rankings.
It means world No 1 and defending champion Osaka tops the seedings ahead of Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova.
Six-time champion Serena Williams is the eighth seed with Cincinnati winner Madison Keys the 10th seed and Britain’s Jo Konta 16th. The draw for the US Open will be made on Thursday at 5pm BST.
