Thousands of runners took to the streets of London this morning to take part in the 2019 London Marathon, including Sir Mo Farah.
Four-time Olympic champion Farah was looking to improve on his third-place finish last year and win his first London Marathon but had to settle for fifht place after a disappointing run.
Eliud Kipchoge, who entered the race as the overwhelming favorite having smashed the marathon world record last September in Berlin, won his fourth London Marathon to the delight of the crowd.
Defending women’s champion Vivian Cheruiyot but came second to fellow Kenyan Brigid Kosgei.

The wheelchair and Para marathon events also took place this morning, with the former race providing a big moment of drama from the outset.
