LeBron James: I wanted to be like Michael Jordan
Chicago Bulls icon Jordan scored 32,292 points in his NBA career across 1,072 games.
But against the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers star James passed him after scoring 31 points in the 99-115 defeat to the Denver Nuggets.
The forward has played more than 100 games more than Jordan, but has made more than 1,200 more three-pointers in his career.
Before the game started, James and his team-mates tweeted about the possibility of him breaking the record.
LeBron himself posted: “Can’t even front. This is going to be UNREAL!! Wow man.”
James told SportsCenter that the reason he wears the number 23 is because of Jordan, and spoke about how much he looks up to him.
“I wear the number because of Mike,” he said.
“I fell in love with the game because of Mike.
“When you’re growing up and seeing Michael Jordan it’s almost like a God.
“So I didn’t ever believe I could be like Mike.
“I never thought that you could get to a point where Mike was.
“So I think that helped shape my game.

“I think the biggest thing for me is that I did it just being me.”
Comparisons are constantly made between the two, due to their incredible achievements throughout their respective careers.
The biggest argument used by fans of Jordan is that the former Bulls star won six NBA championships, and was named NBA Finals MVP on each occasion.
However on the flip side it is argued that James won a championship ring with a worse team by leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first ever title.
