NBA news: Bold Anthony Davis to Lakers prediction made, LeBron James could be key
NBA news - Anthony Davis will join the Los Angeles Lakers, Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard claims.
The New Orleans Pelicans superstar has two years remaining on his current contract.
Davis, 25, can become a free agent in 2020.
The Pelicans superstar has been linked with the Lakers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks in recent weeks.
However, Broussard reckons Davis will head to LA, with the Lakers possibly trading for the big man next summer - especially following his decision to sign with LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul.
I think he’s going to end up with the Lakers
“The guy I have the biggest gut feeling on is Anthony Davis,” Broussard told Fox Sports.
“I think he’s going to end up with the Lakers.
“He signed with Rich Paul and we know he’s LeBron’s agent.
“I’m not saying Rich is going to make him go there or direct him there but he [Davis] knew what he was doing when he signed with Paul.
“He knew about that connection to the Lakers and LeBron.
“It may have to get ugly, since he’s not a free agent until 2020.
“If he wants to be in LA next season, they’re going to have to go to New Orleans and say: ‘Look, he’s not re-signing, he wants to go to the Lakers’.
“They might have to try and scare off other teams.
“The Lakers would then make a trade because they have so many pieces they can get rid of. I think that could happen.”
Davis guided the Pelicans to the Western Conference semi-finals last time out, with New Orleans losing 4-1 to the eventual champions Golden State Warriors.
The power forward has started where he left off last season, with Davis averaging 30 points, 14 rebounds and five assists per game.
Davis and the Pelicans are back in action tonight, with New Orleans facing the Brooklyn Nets.
