Michael van Gerwen warns Luke Humphries and Luke Littler after winning Budapest title

Michael van Gerwen was the toast of Budapest as he clinched the Hungarian Darts Trophy in a nail-biting showdown, narrowly edging out compatriot Gian van Veen with an 8-7 victory.

And the Dutch darting maestro then warned Luke Humphries and Luke Littler that he's on the right track again just a couple of months out from the World Championship at Ally Pally. 

Despite Van Veen's close shot at a historic first senior PDC title, it was the experience of three-time world champion Van Gerwen that prevailed in the MVM Dome.

Glory in Budapest marked his 37th European Tour win and his second triumph within a week following his Players Championship win.

Reflecting on the intensity of the final, Van Gerwen admitted to PDC.TV: "This was really important I had to battle really hard.

"I was struggling in the final and Gian took advantage, but I was more battling with myself. The crowd gave me so much energy and to give them something back, I'm over the moon."

Reinforcing his comeback, he said: "I think I'm on the right way, especially with my new darts. I missed the winning feeling for a long time but now everything falls into place.

"I want to win more and my love for the game is still there. I need to make sure I keep this momentum going."

During his triumphant weekend, Van Gerwen not only achieved a spectacular nine-darter but also vanquished Gabriel Clemens, Josh Rock, and Ross Smith before beating Van Veen.

In a dramatic twist, Van Gerwen powered through from behind to snatch the win with a dazzling 110 checkout after Van Veen narrowly missed the bullseye for the match.
